Hardwood sandless refinishing, as the name suggests, is refinishing that involves no sanding of the hardwood floor. Not to be confused with the dustless sanding which does involve sanding, the sandless refinishing is something different altogether.
The trouble with sanding is that it throws up a lot of dust which can affect the air quality and create a lot of mess around the home or in a business premises. Many people prefer not to have this much sand floating around their premises especially if they are working around people. Instead, at Rovin’s Hardwood Flooring, we offer a sandless refinishing. In this situation the floors are screened or buffed before a protective coating is applied. It is essentially what would happen after sanding but without any of the messy work.
Although there are benefits of a sandless finish it does restrict your options when it comes to the finish that can be achieved. If you are looking to change the color of the floor a sandless refinish will not allow for this. If the floor was damaged prior to the refinish with deep scratches and grey areas where the poly has worn off, then you will need to consider something more effective like sanding back to the bare wood before staining and applying a protective coat.
A sandless refinish is mainly suited to a floor that has perhaps dulled a little over time or that has become a little worn and dirty. If the protective coat has worn off then this option will offer you the chance to bring your floors up to their previous condition as long as there is no substantial damage.
Of course this option takes far less time than other options like sanding and staining and can be turned around pretty quickly causing minimal fuss and distraction.
